For the past several years, I've been working on a family history book of my maternal grandparents, Stanley "Spud" Davis and Marian Bohnsack.  After my grandma died late last year, completing the book became a priority.  I knew it was something she'd appreciate and completing it is my way of honoring her and my grandfather's legacy. Margaret Jane (Hicks) Davis was  my great-great grandmother, and the wife of John B. Davis.  Her parents were Henry Hicks and Hester Ingram. Margaret was born on June 17, 1843 in Guilford Twp, Jo Daviess Co, Illinois.  She died June 14, 1915 in Council Hill, Jo Daviess Co, Illinois. Margaret and John had six children: Estella, Alvin, Laban, John, Lovella, and Percival. The announcement of her death appeared in the Galena paper on Tuesday evening, June 15, 1915. Henry Hicks was the son of Henry Hicks and Hester Jane Ingram, my ggg-grandparents.  He was the brother of my gg-grandmother, Margaret Jane (Hicks) Davis.   He was born in Guilford Township, Jo Daviess County, Illinois, on March 25, 1845.  He died February 3, 1930, in Warren, Jo Daviess, Illinois. Henry is buried at Scales Mound Township Cemetery in Scales Mound, Illinois. His obituary was published in the Freeport Journal-Standard on Tuesday, February 4, 1930. My ggg-grandmother Hester Jane (Ingram) Hicks was born in Crowan, Cornwall, England in 1822, and died on October 24, 1889, in Scales Mound, Jo Daviess Co, Illinois. When she was 20 years old, she married Henry Hicks.
