Mary Francis Josephine (Uhlrich) Sanders, my gg-grandmother,  died in Dubuque, Iowa, on January 12, 1935.  Josephine, born September 28, 1859 in Rock Island, Illinois, was the oldest of eight children.  Her parents were Francis Joseph and Theresa (Heid) Uhlrich. Josephine married Ernest Vincent Sanders on October 28, 1886, in Jo Daviess County, Illinois.  They had eight children, four of whom preceded her in death including my great-grandmother Ernestine (Sanders) Strelesky.  Ernest died in 1928.  Funeral services for Josephine were held on Monday, January 14, 1935, … [Read more...]

Leo Bohnsack was my great-grandfather.  He was born  on December 16, 1891, in Schapville, Thompson Twp, Illinois,  to Carl Herman Bohnsack and Carolina Sophia Wulff.  He was the oldest of three children.    He married Minnie Marie Deininger on February 16, 1916, in Galena, Illinois.  Leo and Minnie had four children: Vernon, Norman, Marian, and Jeannette. My great-grandmother, Ernestine (Sanders) Strelesky, died of pneumonia, following an attack of influenza, during the Spanish flu pandemic. She was pregnant when she died in Sheridan, Wyoming, on February 5, 1920.  She was 32.  Ernestine is buried at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque, Iowa. Ernestine was born in Galena, Jo Daviess co, Illinois, on November 20, 1887, to Ernest and Josephine (Uhlrich) Sanders.  She was the oldest of eight children. Laban Davis was an older brother of my great-grandfather Percy Davis. Laban was born October 12, 1873, in Council Hill, Jo Daviess Co, Illinois, to John B. and Margaret (Hicks) Davis.  He was the third of six children. On November 23, 1915, he married Gladys Cecelia Ray in Dubuque, Iowa.  She was a mail-order bride. Gladys died during childbirth on October 24, 1917, in Dubuque.  The unnamed baby girl passed away a few days later. Sanders, who died in 1891.  Interment was made in Greenwood Cemetery, but I do not know the location of her grave.
