Chancery Record: Christian Smith military warrant 1 Oct 1851

As reward for his service in the War of 1812, my gggg-grandfather Christian Smith was granted land by the U.S. government.  Christian Smith was drafted into Captain Jacob Catterlin's 2nd Regiment Ohio militia in Fairfield County, Ohio. He served from September 1, 1813, until March 1, 1814. Military Warrant No. 3833 for 80 acres issued in his favor: the North half of SE qtr of Sec 9 in Twp 32, Rng 3 W in the Dist of Lands subject to sale at Winamac Indiana. When I ordered Christian Smith's military records (he was a veteran of the War of 1812) from the National Archives, I never imagined that it would have this gem when the records arrived in the mail in May.  I was so excited to discover the marriage record of Christian Smith and Rebecca Firestone, my gggg-grandparents. U.S. Daughters of 1812

My gggg-grandfather, Christian Smith, served in the War of 1812. He was drafted into Captain Jacob Catterlin's 2nd Regiment Ohio militia in Fairfield County, Ohio, and served from 1 Sept 1813 until 1 Mar 1814.  Christian was discharged at Upper Sandusky, Ohio. A couple of months ago, I applied for membership into the U.S. Daughters of 1812.  Yesterday, I received confirmation that I've been accepted!  I'm so excited and pleased that I was able to prove direct lineal descent. Obituary: Rebecca (Firestone) Smith

Rebecca (Firestone) Smith was my gggg-grandmother and she was the wife of Christian Smith.  Her daughter Mary was Levi Lightcap's wife.  Rebecca's father, Daniel, is the ancestor traced back to for my Daughters of the American Revolution application.  Rebecca is buried in Firestone Cemetery in Kosciusko County, Indiana, on land formerly owned by her nephew Samuel Firestone Jr. Her obituary was published in the Columbia City Post on December 24, 1890.
