Bausman Girls

Bausman Girls

These are the daughters of Nicholas Jr. and Catherine (Hebenstreit) Bausman. From left to right, standing are Pearl, Gertrude and Viola.  Hazel is sitting. Viola was my maternal grandfather's mother. I believe the photo was taken about 1898 or 1899 since Gertrude (the oldest) was born in 1887, Pearl in 1890, Viola in 1893, and Hazel in November 1896. I shot this photo when I visited Steamboat Rock, Iowa, in June 2012.  When my mom saw the picture, she immediately recognized her grandmother Viola, saying it looked just like her. … [Read more...]

She had four siblings, two  identified: Andrew and Anna Caroline.  I assume her other siblings died in infancy.  Until reading Vitus Hebenstreit's obituary, I was unaware of these children. Catherine married Nicholas Bausman Jr on January 26, 1886, at St. Matthew's Parsonage in Shullsburg, Wisconsin. She spent her married life in Scales Mound, Illinois, and they raised five children: Gertrude, Clement, Pearl, … [Read more...]
