My grandfather, Albert Wallace Lightcap, was born in McIntosh, South Dakota on September 15, 1914 to Ernest and Henrietta (Doose) Lightcap.  He had one brother, Paul.  Wally died in Dubuque, Iowa in 1975. He married Eunice Strelesky in 1936.  Together they had seven boys: Tom, Bill, Ted, Gary, Greg, Jack, and Joel.  Gary died in infancy. Paul was the brother of my grandfather, Albert "Wally" Lightcap. Even though Paul died in 1999, I never met him or any of his family.  Paul's obituary was published in the Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, Iowa) on June 20, 1999.  I don't have a newspaper clipping, but I have the text. Obituary: Ernest Lightcap

Ernest Edward Lightcap was my great-grandfather. He was married three times (even though his obituary only acknowledges two). His first wife was Blanche Payne.  They married January 2, 1900, in St Joseph, Michigan.  He was 20.  She died December 29, 1903, of Bright's disease.  They had no children. In 1905, he married Henrietta Doose (my great-grandmother).  They had two sons, Paul and Albert.  She died on Sept 18, 1917.  According to her death certificate, she died after taking medication to induce an abortion.  I wish I knew more about Henrietta and her … [Read more...]
