Obituary: Benjamin Blewett

This obituary is for Benjamin Blewett, son of John Blewett and Margaret Brookens. He was born May 20, 1845, in Guilford Twp, Jo Daviess  Co, Illinois, the fourth of six children.  He married Rose Stephens and they had a son Benjamin.

He died October 21, 1928, in Elizabeth, Jo Daviess co, Illinois. He was killed by a bullet through the brain.  His death was ruled a suicide, but it was suspicious since there was two bullet casings.

Interment made at Oakwood Cemetery in Elizabeth.

Obituary: Benjamin Blewett

Transcription of obituary

Benjamin Blewett was born in Guilford township of this country on May 20, 1845, and spent the most of his life in Jo Daviess county where he was widely known. He spent his early life on the farm of his parents but came to Elizabeth while still a young man and operated a cobbler’s shop here. Later he moved to Nora where he continued the business and at one time he was a traveling salesman for a shoe manufacturing company. Some time later he moved to Sheffield, Iowa, and about 35 years ago he returned to this county making his home in Hanover until a few months ago when he came to Elizabeth.

He is survived by one son, Benjamin Blewett of this city, his wife having preceded him in death about 35 years ago. One sister, Mrs. William Combellick of Gettysburg, So. Dakota and one brother Thomas Blewett of Thornton, Iowa, besides several nephews and nieces of this locality are also left to mourn his departure.
