Rebecca (Firestone) Smith was my gggg-grandmother and she was the wife of Christian Smith. Her daughter Mary was Levi Lightcap‘s wife. Rebecca’s father, Daniel, is the ancestor traced back to for my Daughters of the American Revolution application. Rebecca is buried in Firestone Cemetery in Kosciusko County, Indiana, on land formerly owned by her nephew Samuel Firestone Jr.
Her obituary was published in the Columbia City Post on December 24, 1890. Many thanks to the South Whitley Public Library in South Whitley, Indiana; a wonderfully helpful librarian scanned and emailed me the obituary. Rebecca’s obituary mentions that she had 5 daughters and 3 sons, and that 5 children were living. I can identify 6 children: Rachel, Nancy, Mary, John, George, and Allen. At the time of Rebecca’s death, Mary and John had passed away.
