When I ordered Christian Smith’s military records (he was a veteran of the War of 1812) from the National Archives, I never imagined that it would have this gem when the records arrived in the mail in May. I was so excited to discover the marriage record of Christian Smith and Rebecca Firestone, my gggg-grandparents. Until this record, I had only deductive reasoning that the Christian Smith I was researching was married to Rebecca Firestone.
“My” Christian Smith has been claimed by other researchers, most notably by people having him born in North Carolina (he was born in Maryland) and some have him married to both Rebecca (Unknown) and Nancy (Unknown).
Fortunately, this marriage certificate confirms he married Rebecca Firestone; other information in his military records confirm Christian married once. They were married on October 19, 1815 in Fairfield County, Ohio.
Confirmation of Maryland as Christian’s place of birth was also in the military records and his death occurred on June 27, 1874, in Kirklin Twp, Clinton, Indiana. I believe he died on his farm in Boone County, Indiana, but his postal address was Kirklin Twp in Clinton County. This is noted as where he died.
Anyway, enjoy reading the marriage record!
