Obituary: Albert Wallace “Wally” Lightcap

Wally Lightcap

My grandfather, Albert Wallace Lightcap, was born in McIntosh, South Dakota on September 15, 1914 to Ernest and Henrietta (Doose) Lightcap.  He had one brother, Paul.  Wally died in Dubuque, Iowa in 1975.

He married Eunice Strelesky in 1936.  Together they had seven boys: Tom, Bill, Ted, Gary, Greg, Jack, and Joel.  Gary died in infancy.

His obituary was published in the Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, Iowa) on November 16, 1975.

A.W. Lightcap

Services for A.W. “Wally” Lightcap, 61, of 1790 Auburn St., who died Thursday at Finley Hospital will be 11 a.m. Monday at Nativity Church.

Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Egelhof-Casper Funeral Home, where the wake service will be said at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Mr. Lightcap was born in McIntosh, S.D., and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was manager of the Hoover vacuum cleaner department at Stampfers for 38 years.

Surviving are his wife, the former Eunice Strelesky; six sons, Thomas, Gregory and Joel, all of Dubuque, William of Arcadia, Calif., Theodore of Sterling, Ill., and Jack of Iowa City, Iowa; a brother Paul, of Dubuque, and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to multiple sclerosis or diabetic foundation.
