I’ve been researching Lucretia (Halsey) Lightcap for awhile, and it’s so difficult to find information outside of U.S. Federal Census information about her. Her first husband Robert was the brother of my ggg-grandfather, Levi Lightcap.  Robert died when he was about 32 years old leaving Lucretia a young widow with two small boys.

I was very excited that I found her marriage certificate to her second husband, Henry Beck. She’s listed on the marriage certificate at Mrs. Lauretta Lightcap.  They married November 4, 1860, in Sandusky County, Ohio. This is the only time I’ve seen Lucretia referenced at Lauretta, and yes, I’m sure it’s her.  Perhaps this is a clue to guide me forward in researching her.

Henry Beck was approximately 34 years older than Lucretia; it’s always intrigued me why she married a man so much older than she.

State of Ohio Sandusky County I certify that on the 4th day of November 1860 Mr. Henry Beck and Mrs. Lauretta Lightcap were by me legally joined in marriage.
