Lena (Wulff) Bohnsack

Carolina Sophia “Lena” (Wulff) Bohnsack was my gg-grandmother.  She was born in Germany on November 15, 1867 to Henry and Marie (Schumacher) Wulff. She immigrated at 16, and married Carl Herman Bohnsack on January 13, 1891, in Schapville, Illinois.  Herman and Lena had three children: my great-grandfather Leo, Mabel and Mary.

I discovered this obituary at Grandma Davis‘. The citation is unknown.

Mrs. Bohnsack Dies Aged 81 at Schapville

Mrs. Lena Bohnsack, 81, long-time resident of Jo Daviess county, died Sept. 29 in her home at Schapville. She had been seriously ill for six weeks.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 in her home and at 2 in the Zion Lutheran church at Schapville. The Rev. Randolph H. Hahn, pastor, officiated and burial was in the church cemetery.

Lena Wulff was born in Germany Nov. 15, 1867, a daughter of Henry and Marie Schumacher Wulff. She came to the United States when she was 16 and settled in Jo Daviess county. She married Henry Bohnsack Jan. 13, 1891.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Harry (Mary) Brandt of Elizabeth and Mrs. Alvin (Mable) Hammer of Galena, a son Leo Bohnsack of Galena, a sister Miss Anna Wulff of Galena, a brother Henry Wulff of Apple River, 13 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death.

    Thanks for posting this. My great-grandfather was Arthur Wulff who was a son of Henry Wulff’s. I know I”m related to Wulff’s that are buried at the Schapville Cemetary. I have more information that I’ll try and dig up if you want it on the Wulff side of things. I grew up in Jo Daviess county.
