
Leo Bohnsack was my great-grandfather. He was born on December 16, 1891, in Schapville, Thompson Twp, Illinois, to Carl Herman Bohnsack and Carolina Sophia Wulff. He was the oldest of three children. He married Minnie Marie Deininger on February 16, 1916, in Galena, Illinois. Leo and Minnie had four children: Vernon, Norman, Marian, and Jeannette.
He died on July 28, 1957, in Galena. He’s buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Galena, Illinois.
His obituary was published in the Rockford Morning Star, July 30, 1957.

GALENA – Services for Leo H. Bohnsack, 65, who died Sunday in his home, will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Nash funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Mr. Bohnsack was born Dec. 16, 1891, in Schapville, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bohnsack. He married Minnie Deininger Feb. 16, 1916, in Galena.
He was a member of the Eagles lodge and Schapville Lutheran church. He was a retired Savanna Ordnance depot employee.
Surviving are his widow; two sons, Vernon, Waddams Grove, and Norman, Galena; two daughters, Mrs. Stanley Davis, Scales Mound, and Mrs. Jeannette Schultz, Galena; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Brandt, Elizabeth, and Mrs. Alvin Hammer, Galena.
