Marriage: Eleanor (Lightcap) Jones and John Lawrence

Eleanor “Ellen” (Lightcap) Jones was the sister of my 3rd great-grandfather, Levi Lightcap.  Her first husband was Samuel Jones who died in 1838.  They had a son, William Jones, who was killed in action at the Battle of Stone River,  one of the bloodiest conflicts of the Civil War.

Ellen remarried on December 30, 1841, in Seneca, Ohio, to John Lawrence, a widower with a young son. John’s wife Sarah passed away on January 5, 1841.

Ellen and John had seven children: James, Sarah, Robert, Emery, Anna, Frank, and Isaac.

John Lawrence and Eleanor Jones license to marriage December 25, 1841.  I hereby certify that on the 30th day of December A.D. 1841 by virtue of a license from the clerk of the court of Common Pleas of Seneca County John Lawrence and Eleanor Jones were legally joined in marriage by a minister of the Gospel. Certified February 24, 1842.
