Obituary: Marie (Strelesky) Smith

Marie (Strelesky) Smith was the daughter of Frank Strelesky and Fannie Hainey, and an older sister of my great-grandfather John Joseph Strelesky. She was born March 27, 1877, in Mineral Point, Iowa county, Wisconsin.  She died August 21, 1942, in Dubuque, Dubuque county, Iowa.

She married Theodore M. Smith in Sioux City, Iowa, on November 23, 1911. They had three children: Alexander, Leonard and Marcella.

She is buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.  Her obituary appeared in the Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) on Friday, August 21, 1942.

Transcription of obituary:

Mrs. T. M. Smith, 65, of 1375 University Avenue, died at her home Friday morning at 3:50 o’clock after a lingering illness.

The body will be transferred Saturday noon from the Behr Funeral Home to the family residence, from where the funeral will be held to the Church of the Nativity at 10 o’clock Monday morning. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith was born March 27, 1877, in Mineral Point, Wis., and had lived in Dubuque for the past 35 years. She was a member of the Nativity Church and of the Rosary Society of the parish.

As Marie Strelsky (sic), she married in Sioux City, to Theodore Smith, who survives, together with one daughter, Miss Marcella, at home, and two sons, Alexandria (sic), also at home, and Leonard, of Dubuque; three sisters Miss Agnes and Miss Levina Strelsky (sic), both of San Francisco, Claif., and Mrs. Mildred Moore of Scotts Bluff, Neb.; three brothers, John of Dubuque, Al of Omaha, and James of San Francisco; and two grandchildren.

The family has requested that friends please omit flowers.
