Bertha Mae Sales was the wife of James Bailey Lightcap, son of Walter and Eliza Jane (Stewart) Lightcap. She was born Jul 1878 in Montery, Pulaski County, Indiana to Newton and Caroline (Brugh) Sales. At 18, she married James Bailey in Chicago, Illinois.
Bertha and James had three children, including Marvin and Myra. I believe their other child was Darah E. Lightcap. Darah is buried in the Levi Lightcap family plot in Pioneer Cemetery, North Judson, Indiana. According to the 1900 U.S. Federal Census, Bertha had given birth to two children and one was living. Marvin was born in 1897, and Myra in 1902. Darah was born 1898 and died in 1899.
Bertha passed away on March 17, 1933, about a year after her husband. Interment made at Mount Hope Cemetery in Worth, Cook County, Illinois.
The announcement of her death appeared in the Times (Hammond, Indiana) on March 17 1933.

Mrs. Bertha Lightcap Taken By Death Today
Mrs. Bertha May Lightcap, 54 years old, died this morning at the home of her son, Marvin Lightcap, 7437 Jackson avenue, Hammond.
Surviving are the son, Marvin, a daughter, Mrs. Myra Nelson, of Chicago; her mother, Mrs. Caroline Sales, of Monterey, Ind., and four brothers. There are five grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
