I found a newspaper clipping of a marriage announcement for my maternal grandfather’s parents Viola Bausman and Percy Davis while going through some genealogy files once belonging to Viola’s sister, Gertrude (Bausman) Schoenhard.  I enjoyed reading the description of Viola’s wedding dress.  I have a picture of their wedding (posted below next to the article transcription), but would never have known the color of her dress without this clipping. Viola was 20 when she married Percy who was 26.

Announcements have been received of the marriage of Miss Viola Edith Bausman and Mr. Percival Leland Davis which was solemnized at Freeport Thursday, July 17th, 1913 by Rev. McGuire. The attendants were Miss Pearl Bausmann [sic, Bausman] and Mr. LeRoy Hancock, cousin of the groom. The bride was attired in a beautiful imported gown of lemon color silk dotted crepe over satin with trimmings of baby Irish lace. The bridesmaid wore a very dainty creation of figured old rose messaline. The groom and his attendant wore the conventional black. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Bausmann [sic, Bausman] of Scales Mound, and was a graduate of the class of ’12 and for the past year has been engaged in teaching school. The gorom [sic, groom] is the youngest son of Mrs. John B. Davis and is an industrious farmer, living one-half mile south of Scoles [sic, Scales] Mound. The bridal party left on the evening train for a honeymoon trip through the East and will be at home after August 1st on the Dower farm. The entire family of Gazette readers extend to Mr. and Mrs. Davis hearty congratultaions [sic, congratulations] for a long and happy wedded pilgrimage.
