Lawrence Lincoln Bausman was a younger brother of Nicholas Bausman Jr, my maternal grandfather’s grandfather.
Lawrence was the eighth of ten children born to Nicholas Sr. and Mary (Casper) Bausman. I learned quite a bit about Lawrence after meeting his granddaughter when I visited Steamboat Rock, Iowa.
Lawrence was born 31 January 1862 in Guilford Township, Jo Daviess county, Illinois. He married Wilhelmina “Minnie” Benz, daughter of Mathias and Maria Rosina Margaretha (Eberlein) Benz, on 01 July 1886 in Pleasant Valley, Grundy County, Iowa. Minnie was born 14 October 1864 in Aurora, Du Page county, Illinois.
He and Minnie had twelve children, raising them in Pleasant Valley.
- Rosa Bell (Bausman) Fritzel (1886 – 1958)
- Lillian Bausman (1888 – 1888)
- Charles Douglas Bausman (1889 – 1946)
- Lee Lincoln Bausman (1890 – 1919)
- Mary Esther Bausman (1892 – 1948)
- Irl Hicks Bausman (1894 – 1938)
- Bryan Bland Bausman (1896 – 1962)
- Floyd Louis Bausman (1898 – 1944)
- Lynn Nicholas Bausman (1900 – 1983)
- Gladys Irene (Bausman) Harms (1902 – 1971)
- Wayne Lawrence Bausman (1904 – 1953)

Lawrence was a farmer and educator. When he was 20, he attended Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Dubuque county, Iowa. At 21, he went to Grundy county where he taught for 22 years. Lawrence was active in civic affairs, holding township offices.
Lawrence died 26 October 1937 in Pleasant Valley. He outlived all his brothers. Minnie preceded him in death 18 January 1932. Interment made at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery.
