I’ve learned many things while focusing my research on the Bausmans over the past few weeks. One of them is that I’ve never posted about Pearl (Bausman) Hesselbacher, a sister to Viola (my mother’s paternal grandmother).
This past summer I had the opportunity to photograph Pearl’s wedding picture (see right). My uncle surprised me with the photo after borrowing it from the widow of Pearl’s son Eldon.
Pearl was the third of five children born to Nicholas Jr. and Catherine (Hebenstreit) Bausman. She was born 01 July 1890 in Guilford Township, Jo Daviess county, Illinois. She married John Henry “Jack” Hesselbacher. I do not know the date of their marriage.
They had three children:
- LaVerne “Popeye” Hesselbacher (1917-1989)
- LaVerne was my grandfather Spud Davis’ best friend. He and his wife Clara stood up for my grandparents at their wedding in 1941.
- Eldon E. Hesselbacher (1918-1990)
- Coleta C. Hesselbacher (1920-1966)
Pearl died 18 June 1944 in Scales Mound, Jo Daviess county, Illinois. She was 53. She is buried in the Bausman/Davis/Hesselbacher family plot at Scales Mound Township Cemetery.
