Obituary: Caroline (Hebenstreit) Stephan

When I was back in Scales Mound in October, I discovered several obituaries in my Grandma Davis‘ genealogy files.  I assume she “inherited” them from Viola (Bausman) Davis Hickman after she passed in 1974.  Anyway, I’m glad Grandma kept them and didn’t toss’em since Caroline Hebenstreit’s is almost 100 years old. Anna Caroline Hebenstreit was…

Gertrude (Bausman) Schoenhard was the daughter of Nicholas Jr and Catherine (Hebenstreit) Bausman and a sister to my great-grandmother, Viola (Bausman) Davis Hickman. I don’t really know anything about Gertrude or her family, except that my grandfather, Stanley Davis, enjoyed visiting his South Dakota cousins.  I’ve seen a few pictures from those visits! My mom gave me another obituary; she has quite a few in her possession. There is no citation. This is for Nicholas Bausman Jr, son of Nicholas Sr. and Mary (Casper) Bausman.  He was married to Catherine Hebenstreit. I’m not including a newspaper image.  It’s a bit long and I didn’t feel like manipulating the…
