Catherine (Hebenstreit) Bausman was my gg-grandmother. She was born December 23, 1863, in Shullsburg, Wisconsin to Vitus and Bertha (Schafer) Hebenstreit. Nicholas Bausman Sr’s of Guilford Township, Illinois, appeared in the “Portrait and Biographical Album of Jo Daviess and Carroll Counties, Illinois” (1889), p. 444. I found a xerox copy of the Oath of Allegiance for Valentine Schoenhard in my grandparents’ original edition of “History of Jo Daviess County, …” (1878). Valentine took the Oath of Allegiance in New York, New York on October 25, 1853. My grandfather‘s aunt Gertrude (Bausman) married Lester Harvey Schoenhard. (Valentine Schoenhard was Lester’s grandfather.)
