Mary Francis Josephine (Uhlrich) Sanders, my gg-grandmother, died in Dubuque, Iowa, on January 12, 1935. Josephine, born September 28, 1859 in Rock Island, Illinois, was the oldest of eight children. Her parents were Francis Joseph and Theresa (Heid) Uhlrich.
Josephine married Ernest Vincent Sanders on October 28, 1886, in Jo Daviess County, Illinois. They had eight children, four of whom preceded her in death including my great-grandmother Ernestine (Sanders) Strelesky. Ernest died in 1928. Funeral services for Josephine were held on Monday, January 14, 1935, in Dubuque, Iowa. She’s buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque, Iowa.

Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine Sanders were held Monday morning from the family home, 1629 Prescott Street to Holy Trinity church. The Rev. Joseph Forst officiated.
Pallbearers were Carl Uhlrich, Herbert Strelesky, Robert Sanders, Harry Kirmse, William Trentz, and Wes Baumhover. Burial was made in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Out of town people were Mr. and Mrs. Alvin E. Sanders and family, Racine, Wis.; Mrs. Norma McDonough, St. Louis, Mo.; Herbert J. Strelesky, Boulder, Colo.; Mrs. C.E. Humphrey, Rifle, Colo.; Fred Hoelting and Mrs. Anna Ritter, Galena, Ill.; and Mrs. Mary Ellen Flynn, Bellevue, Ia.
