Gladys (Ray) Davis

Gladys Cecilia (Ray) Davis was the wife of Laban Davis, brother of my great-grandfather Percy. Gladys was 21 years old when she died in childbirth at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, Dubuque Co, Iowa.  Her baby girl died a few days later.  The baby was not named. Mother and baby are buried together at Scales Mound Township Cemetery in Scales Mound, Jo Daviess Co, Illinois.

Her obituary was published in The Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) on  Wednesday, Oct 24, 1917.  Obituary incorrectly states she died on October 23. She died on Oct 24.

Council Hill Woman Dies

Mrs. Gladys Davis, wife of Laban Davis, passed away Tuesday morning at 2:45 o’clock at Mercy Hospital. The deceased was born at Greenville, Ill., twenty-one years ago, and had been a resident of Council Hill, Ill. She was a member of Council Hill, Ill. She was a member of the Presbyterian church of that place. The funeral services will be held Friday at Council Hill, with interment at Scales Mound, Ill.

She is survived by her husband, Laban Davis, a daughter, one day old, and a brother, Robert Ray, of Evanston, Ill. The body was shipped to Council Hill Wednesday afternoon.
