Obituary: A.F.E. Sanders

My ggg grandfather was Adam Frederick Ernest Sanders.  I was recently back in Galena Illinois and was able to find his obituary that was published in the Galena Daily Gazette on 9 Oct 1891.  I also went to the Galena courthouse, but there is no death certificate on file.  His wife Catherine (Fuch) is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, so he’s probably buried there.

  1. Kathryn Lightcap this is wonderful information and effort.

I thought I had found AFE Sanders and Catherine Fuchs Sanders (My Great GP’s) grave stones in Galena.
The stones only had initials on the base of the grave as a determent to grave robbers.

I also had a name of Tucks for Catherine. Fuchs. I will go with Fuchs.

Also on the record for Frank Uhlrich Sanders the history of children leaves of Patricia Ann (Sanders) Rossman B- 1935 and James John Sanders B-1938. I am James John Sanders..
Patricia was Born and lives in Dubuque James was born in Dubuque and lives in San Antonio. Texas.

Kathryn I am sad to say I don’t know who you are? Is your father William Lightcap?

Bill and I had a lot of fun as kids.

    Thanks again Kathryn,

    Jim Sanders

    1. Hi Jim,

Bill is my uncle. Greg is my dad. I’m going to make a note of Tucks as a last name for Catherine. I haven’t heard that before. I visited Greenwood Cemetery this past summer but was unable to find either AFE or Catherine’s graves.

Do you know Elaine (Heitz) Lorenz? I visited her over the summer and she gave me some Sanders and Strelesky information. She lent me Marjorie Strelesky’s diary which I transcribed and it’s available on this website. There are some Sanders stories since after Marjorie’s mother, Ernestine (Sanders) Strelesky died, the children were raised by Josephine (Uhlrich) Sanders.

I would love to exchange information. If you had any pictures of Josephine or Ernest Sanders or their children, it would be wonderful. I only have a couple of pictures, which I’m willing to share.

All the best. You can email me at lightcapka@gmail.com

      Thanks!
      Kathryn

  2. Hi Uncle Jim. Does that mean AFE Sanders is my ggg grandfather? And hi Kathryn Lightcap. I’ve heard the Lightcap name many a time over the years- my father was Donald Sanders Jim’s brother.

Hello, Margaret Sanders Fairweather was my Great Grandmother. Married to John fairweather DOB 1844 D 1894. Johns father was James Fairweather DOB 1808 D 1856 Dundee Scotland. 😉 Family?.

    1. Kathryn says:

Yes. Margaret Sanders Fairweather was the daughter of AFE Sanders and Catherine Fuch, and a sister of my gg-grandfather, Ernest Vincent Sanders.

Margaret’s husband’s parents were James Fairweather and Catherine McQueen. I know that John and his parents are buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Galena, Illinois. I assume Margaret is also buried there, but have been unable to find her stone.

      1. Barbara Norgrove says:

Thank you for the response , And hello from Boise Idaho .;)
