Death Notice: Elizabeth (Davis) Wear

Elizabeth Davis was the daughter of John Davies II and Jennifer “Jane” Blewett.  She was born in Cornwall, England on December 6, 1834, the fourth of five children.  Her siblings were Jacob Davis III, William Davis, Mary Davies, and John B. Davis (my gg-grandfather).

Elizabeth’s father died about 1840 in Cornwall.  Jane  immigrated with her children in 1848 after the 1847 Cornish potato famine hit.  The famine occurred at the same time as the Irish potato famine and deprived the Cornish working classes of one of their staple foods.

Jane and her family settled in Reading, Berks Co, Pennsylvania by 1850.  In 1870, Jane was living in Jo Daviess Co, Illinois.  Elizabeth had married William Wear, also a native of England, and lived in Santa Clara, Santa Clara Co, California.

They had two children: John and Charles.  Elizabeth died August 12, 1903, in Santa Clara, California.

A notice of her death appeared in August 13, 1903 in The San Jose Evening News.
