Obituary: Paul George Lightcap

Paul was the brother of my grandfather, Albert “Wally” Lightcap. Even though Paul died in 1999, I never met him or any of his family.  Paul’s obituary was published in the Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, Iowa) on June 20, 1999.  I don’t have a newspaper clipping, but I have the text.

Transcript of the obituary:

Paul G. Lightcap, 93, of 2611 Windsor Ave., died at 4:55 p.m., Friday, June 18, 1999, at ManorCare Health Services.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Dubuque Bible Church, 3500 Pennsylvania Ave., with burial in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Locust Street Funeral Home, 1145 Locust St., and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

He owned and operated Lightcap Sewing Center for more than 60 years. He was born on April 20, 1906, in Wisconsin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Lightcap. He married Louella Miller in 1925; she died in 1994. He was a member of Dubuque Bible Church since the 1940s. He loved working on sewing machines.

Surviving are a son, Harold (Betty) Lightcap, of Dubuque; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Wallace Lightcap.

A Paul G. Lightcap Memorial Fund has been established.
